Having just moved, I am now on dialup instead of DSL. And I'm finding this (and any other graphic intensive site) extremely painful to browse. I'm used to almost instantaneous browsing, and now it seems like I have to wait an eternity for photos to appear. I hope broadband comes sooner rather than later. :-(

I understand what you can feel, having been on dialup until last december. Hope you will find better conditions asap. For the improvements you are working on, please don't hesitate to send me the files for translation in french. As we say, Bon courage et patience...

There's only one thing worse than dialup - and that's shared dialup ;-)

I must admit before ADSL became almost affordable here I only really surfed at uni/work - we don't have unmetered local calls, so not only was dialup slow, but it was expensive too!

As someone who for whom there is no alternative to dial-up except purchasing a satellite system, I think all web site administrators should be required by law (I'm thinking the death penalty here) to use only dial-up ;o)

I think my sites are reasonable aren't they Bob?

I can sympathise though..

Hope your new DSL comes soon. By the way, congratulations on just hitting the 500 member mark for TE! As someone who has been around since beta testing last year, things have come a long way!

Although it's nice to reach 500 members, it's the quality/civility of member participation that counts, not quantity. So far I believe TE has become a very nice global community. As it grows, I hope and intend to make sure that TE maintains its civility and being a place to learn more about the world through photography.

I feel your pain. Are you saying broadband isn't even available? If so that sux big time.

If you're using IE try browsing with Show Pictures set to off. You can right click and Show Picture only on individual images that you want to see. I do this often and it works pretty well.

"Are you saying broadband isn't even available?"

It is, but ISP says it'll take 3-4 weeks. Thanks for the tip. I'm going out of my mind trying to surf on dialup.

Hey Adam,
Can you remember when we joined Nifty Serve in Fukushima when it was still a text only BBS type system?? My 2,600bps modem connection was smokin'! :-)

I seem to remember you were envious that my modems highest speed was 14,400, even though I rarely connected at 14.4 because it was 25yen per minute, compared to 10yen per minute for 2.6. Now I sit with a permanent 8MB ADSL connect for a fraction of the cost. What a wonderful time we live in.

Maybe that's why I spent so much time at the ramen shop drinking Asahi and eating gyoza? :)
