Would be fine to add to the site the top 10 or 20 or top whatever rated pictures, it isn't already present (and hided for me :) ).
Any opinions regarding that ?

I understand the desire to take a look at the best of the many good pictures here. I'm basically opposed to having a 'Top Ten/Twenty/Whatever'.

I would hate to see the critiquing of the shots turn into a popularity contest. There's already some of that going on.

People have signed up, awarded a 'Big Smiley' to a single photo - perhaps not that good a photo - and disappeared. I recall one comment that made it fairly clear that the 'Reviewer' was a friend of the photographer.

I've seen this happen on other sites. I've seen people post requests on Dpreview for others to go to a particular site and 'Vote' for their picture.

Personally, I'd like to get further from the 'voting' aspect that now exists on TE. My feeling is that we should each be competing only against ourselves. This site, for me, is a place to display my work and to get help on improving my shooting and editing.

This is indeed the reason why I have not done this so far. I may add it in the future but am a bit worried about the unintended consequences as explained by Bob.

Now I know why the classification is not present in the site, that describer by Bob is a behaviour so far from me that I didn’t thought at it.
Sorry guys for the stupid proposal :D

Oh, not stupid, at all.

I think that there might be some sort of happy medium.

Perhaps there could be a page or two of thumbs of those pictures that people have chosen as their 'favorites'. I'd push for not disclosing any 'numbers'.

Something along that line. Generate some ideas that achieve your goal without creating a 'popularity contest'.

A very good idea Bob!

Nothing about the best "rated" pictures, just the favourites... I would hate that competition element too. I really hope this site can stay just as it is, because in my eyes it's nearly perfect! With a great balance between beginners and more experienced people. And most friendly people too...

It's possible to view favorites by Country, please check out the Statistics page in the Gallery section to see. In the future I will add in new ways to view favorites, but I'm trying to finish the BETA site so...

... 'favorites' is indeed a good solution. I too like the amicable feel of TrekEarth. Points promote competition, and competition promotes sniping.

I agree with the favorites thing... have it be a randomly generated group of favorite photos... regardless of if they've been chosen a favorite by one person, or every member of the site. I have basically left two photo sites BECAUSE of point trading. I really don't want to see that happen on Trek Earth. I don't want to see this turn into another site full of empty "good photo" comments. I want to STAY here if we can keep the community friendly, the photos coming and the critiques honest, not "payback".
