Personalized Maps Displayed for Each Member

A personalized world map highlighting every country a photograph has been taken, plus one's home country or country of residence (denoted by a red square) is now displayed on each member's 'Intro' page.

This map will be regenerated once per day assuming one's home country has changed or a country has been added or removed from the list of places where a member has taken a photo.

If anyone encounters any problems or has suggestions on how it may be improved, please let me know.

Great feature, Adam! Good for a single glance summary of where a person's been. It also makes me want to get off my ass and travel. Makes me want to go someplace big like Greenland, Russia or Australia, just to look impressive on the map!

Adam has some "biggies" like Russia and China.
"syair" also has a great map.

I'm glad you like it! I'm thinking about eventually extending this idea to the 'Travelogues' section as well. Each trip will display a similiar map at top with the country or countries visited highlighted. In addition, if more than one country was visited during the trip, there will be lines joining one country to the next, maybe with arrows so one can visually see the order of countries visited.

Another good idea would be to see a map with all the countries all TrekEarth members have covered so far. This way it'll help us to plan our next trip! :)

Good idea. As of today, 2003-03-06, these are the countries TrekEarth members have posted photos to.

Note that I have Greenland listed under Denmark, but I didn't highlight it graphically. I'm not sure which way to go. I could either separate Greenland from Denmark, or highlight Greenland when a photo is posted to Denmark.

Hi Adam, relatively new member here, so please forgive a naive question: is the map still being automatically regenerated nightly? If so, I don't understand why my personal map displays only some of the countries for which I've posted photos. Probably something obvious, but I'm not getting it - appreciate any clarification you can provide.

I've just looked at your profile. It shows that you have posted images from 6 countries and they are all highlighted on the map.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback.

When I look at my own Profile Overview page, the Map of Photographed Countries shows 3 countries (New Zealand, Indonesia, and Peru) plus my home country (USA) highlighted. Three other countries for which I have posted images (Iceland, Brazil, and France) are included in the Photo Location Information table, but not highlighted on the map. I tried logging out and back into the site, but same display results.

Obviously not a huge deal in any case, but seems like an odd inconsistency if you can see the highlighted countries and I can't.

... and now it displays correctly.

Not sure if someone fixed something or if it was coincidental, but the map displays all posted countries now.

I've got the same problem with my map. I've uploaded some few pictures of Croatia, the country appears in the list of photographed countries but not in the map. Is there some time between uploading photos and updating of the map ?

TO KEITH : I see this forum was started by Adam back in 2003 and then had a huge gap of 8 years until 2011.
I have read it all, and I see Adam's problem about Greenland was never solved, i. e . Greenland never appears on any personal profile.
It was brought up in another forum, and we were promised it would be fixed, but seems to have been forgotten.

Besides, I was always disappointed by the new brown and beige map which is not clear at all, whereas the yellow and blue on the beta trekearth is very neat.
Only one example : On my profile, Crete is quite clear on Beta, whereas on the new brown map, you can hardly distinguish Greece.
I long for the old map, even if it remained brown , and I also wish the beta map continued to be updated; One can always dream ...

I see the updating of maps on personal profiles is a problem anyway. See Aru_Earthwalker in "Forum feedback and support". Do people have to ask for their personal map to be updated ? Doesn't the function work automatically ?

I think that's an effect of one's own browser not being refreshed. It may be done manually (F5) or it's done automatically after a certain time.
