AF mode stands for auto focus I think. I am not quite sure about metering, have to look it up.

Success in your search.

Metering is automatic exposure - on more expensive cameras you can set whether the camera chooses an average of the scene, or a spot within in, or centre-weighted area. On the 300D it chooses what it feels is appropriate. I don't think this is a major problem, because you can set exposure compensation, and see the results on screen.

AF mode - most modern AutoFocus cameras have several modes, my EOS30 has AI Servo (focuses continually, useful for moving targets) One shot (finds a focus and stays with it), and the one featured on the 300D (basically it decides between the two modes)
