Look a lot like Japanese cosplayers! They often dress up in this 'gothic' style. Its interesting to see that this kind of thing is not limited to Japan.

    Welcome to TrekEarth!

Interesting garden. It looks like chaos, but I'm sure there's a meaning to it somewhere. ;)

Composition and framing are nice, and the point-of-view (POV) from above is a great choice. Making it a portait image was also a good choice.

Nice shot! Keep them coming! :)

    Hi Yoshiyuki,
Another wonderful photo of a bird! How do you manage to get such great shots?

Can you please tell us the common names of the birds?
Your notes are very disappointing, and its a shame because your photos are so brilliant.

    Beautiful scene...
The colours are wonderful, and the haziness adds a lot of atmosphere. The sun cutting through the trees creates a good contrast between the bright reds and yellows, and the dark greens and browns.
Very well framed. I mean the way the photo is taken, rather than the actual frame/border that you added to the image. The framing creates a good composition of sun on the right, and path on the left that goes off into the forest.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Morea,
    Welcome to TrekEarth :)
This is a lovely little statue. Its a JIZOU statue, to commemorate a deceased child. The statues are always sad but heartwarming at the same time. I've never seen one in this kind of pose before. Thank you for sharing :)
I hope you post more to TrekEarth!

I can't imagine anyone ever actually queuing to play Pachinko. They must have all been very desperate.

Japanese suburbs are often not very pretty, I found. But they all have a character of their own that I liked. Its interesting to see a Japan that's not all clean and shiny like the guidebooks would have us believe.

Framing is good, though you cut off a bit of the Pachinko Parlour's sign. The image could do with being straightened slightly, with a few degrees anti-clockwise, I think.

Anyway, interesting photo. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Tsutomu ^_^

That place sounds a lot like "Round1" in Akita. There you pay 1500 yen for three hours of ASOBIHOUDAI. You can play tennis, mini-golf, basketball, football, baseball, bowling, and lots of arcade games. There's also karaoke, massage chairs, shooting galleries and an internet cafe!
Just like "Round1" in Akita, the lower floor was full of those medal games, which makes people feel like they're gambling ;)
And UFO Cathers, which I became good at winning! :D

Anyway, about the photo. I think the framing is great, and an interesting point-of-view.

This photo reminds me a lot of Akita ^_^

    Hi Michael,

Why did you do such an extreme edit to the photo? Not that I think its a bad thing.
It makes it look like an old photo from the 1940s or 1950s. I can imagine this being a photo from that era.
I'm interested in seeing the photo in true colour.

The image itself is well framed, and a good composition of the soldiers and the drill sergeant in front of them.

Is it easy to freely take photos of such things in China? I havn't been there, but I'd imagine they would start asking questions if tourists took photos of soldiers. Even in democratic countries, taking photographs of certain buildings or military activity can cause a scene.

    Hi Rob,

Interesting place. You've framed the different ruins and gravestones very well. The clouds add a lot to the image, I think. Well done!

It could do with being straightened slightly. A few degrees to the right, I think. It is difficult to judge with the hill and so many conflicting angles, but something just doesn't feel "right" about the photo, somehow.

The correct spelling of "monastry" is "monastery". :)

    Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Rob,

Beautiful sky! The clouds are in a powerful composition, and the contrast of black brooding clouds and white shining clouds is very nice.
Framing is good. The image could do with being rotated to the left slightly, though. The horizon isn't straight.

    Good photo :)

    Hi Ananya,

Interesting subject. The image is very stylistic. Its a nice effect.

A photo with greater focus and detail would be better, I think. The use of black and white is suitable, though, so I wouldn't change that.

Your name is written too close to her face and it stands out too much, so it is distracting. If you want to include your name on the image, try making it partially transparent, or put it onto a frame around the image, rather than on the image itself.

A note would be nice, so that we can learn about this woman. Who is she? In what setting did you find her? Why did you find her interesting, and what did you go through to take the photo?
This kind of information is very helpful to us, and helps learn about the world. :)

Interesting comparison of artwork and technology. Great composition!
    The sky is beautiful.

The black frame around it is nice, but you left some white at the top of the image. Also, the signature is distracting. It spills over the frame and into the photo. I'd suggest either having it in a corner of the photo, or completely on the frame.

    Hi Alastair,
Thanks for taking the time to see my Namahage Ball photo and read the note, and for marking my note as useful. :)

Wonderful image and an interesting note.
The quality is very grainy, due to being from an old photograph, but it gives the photo a lot of charm and character.

Cute child. She makes a great subject in the photo.

Framing is good, and composition is good. Nice work!

    Hi Koji,

There was Yosakoi in Akita in 2008, too. I think its held every year in Akita city. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see it because I had classes at university.

Great framing! Focus is a little off on her face, but not by much. Nice work!

    Hi Yuo,

If this photo wasn't from Japan, I would say this was a fake image ;)

Good composition, nice view of Sapporo, and colours are good considering the subject.

It would be good to crop out the wall on the right.

Thanks for making me laugh! ^^

    Hi Akihisa,
This little snowy mountain in the sea is almost a metaphor for Hokkaido.
Great composition I think, and well framed. The focus is a little off on most of the image, though. Maybe because of a long exposure and the moving sea. You could try sharpening it slightly.

    Hi Ricard,

In Bladrunner there's a lot of Japanese writing in the streetsigns and huge advertising TV screens. I guess the film's cityscapes were based on Japanese cities such as Osaka and Tokyo. Maybe in the not-too-distant future Japan will resemble Bladerunner - or the rest of the world will resemble Japan. ;)

Your photo shows the crowded nature of the city very well. Very good POV right down in the crowd, nice framing (with so much going on, difficult to judge how to crop the image), and good composition.
The image could do with rotating slightly clockwise.

    Thanks for sharing!

    久しぶりですね!

I love your informative photos. Your focus is always on showing us Japan, and teaching us about your country, rather than focussing more on the photography.

I also learn something from your photos and the notes ^_^
