    Hello Robert.
A superb photo. The viewpoint has been well chosen to give us a satisfying composition. Flowers in the left foreground, a figure in the middle distance, and the lovely well lit architecture of the waterfront curving away to the left. Plus those mountains and a well detailed sky. Exquisitely done. I'm glad you timed this to keep the lady in the scene, her looking in her bag adds a 'story' element - very important! For me, anyway.

    Hello Angel.
A quite exquisite photo - perhaps a "postcard" shot, but a really good one. The light, shadow, viewpoint, sharpness are all to perfection. I love to see this kind of narrow lane curving slightly ahead of the viewpoint. Really well done.

    Hi Benny.
Great street scene, some lovely colours and textures, and interesting composition/crop. Interesting Mao period graffiti. I think there's some vignetting here which shadows the seated figure a bit, when I think she (or he?) could be more of a highlight in the photo. Just a thought.

    Hello Casper.
A very pleasing composition for this daily life scene. I like the way the paella pans lead the way towards the cook. It looks like a humble restaurant, but a very homely and welcoming one, and the food looks delicious. Nicely done.
    Good note, too.

A splendid photo with the most wonderful light on the buildings beneath the cloudy sky. I like the way you framed the church with the trees. The colour and sharpness are superb in the larger high resolution version. Very well done.

    Hello Takero.
A charming street scene, capturing daily life for young women in Tokyo. Excellent exposure of this candid photo, giving us wonderful expressions on the girls' faces. This kind of scene is almost universal now - you could find it in any country. It's a great record of the way we live these days. Well done.

    Hi Paul.
A beautiful shot, and so well timed and pleasingly composed/cropped. The red and blue tones are superb. I like the positions of the figures very much - but is the one taking a selfie or a shot of the other person? Anyway, it's a marvellous reflection shot.

A very creative composition, intriguing in its combination of interesting patterns and lines. Thanks for the 1200 pixel version, which allows one to see more of the photo on the screen - although one can do the same by reducing the size of the web page. Very well done.

    Hello Peter
Although the two figures are a little lost in this photo with so many shapes and colours, I like it a lot. The composition/cropping is good, allowing lots of blurry reflections and a strong sense of the water below them. You captured the two figures in good, balanced poses. It's a very good daily life photo, beautifully sharp and with a lovely light.

A fine photo, presumably a long exposure. Great silhouette shape and marvellous display of massed stars in the unpolluted sky.

    Hi Lisa.
Nicely lit photo with lovely warm colour tones and nicely placed cottage. Glad to hear you met up with John.
Great to read the story of your mother's ancestors.
My father's forbears came from near Inverness (although the McRae clan originally came from the Kintail area near the Eilean Donan castle) but we haven't been able to trace my father's branch of the line back past about 1840something, as the Gaelic speakers left no written records. Ah, the mists of time.

    Hello Gyorgy
I think your photo looks superb in b/w. I like the softening effect of the water spouts in comparison to the geometric lines of the buildings. It's always nice to stop and watch children playing in this type of fountain. Reminds me of one which I took in Manchester:
    http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Manchester//photo1197597.htm
I think you got the brightness and contrast right on this one. More and more I find myself converting to monochrome; it seems more subtle in its effects.

    Hi Bev.
A very striking composition, a great way to present this imposing looking hotel. John has uploaded a photo of the Scotsman Hotel, so I imagine you were walking around together. I suppose this one also costs a small fortune per night. The roof had done wonders with the sky from this viewpoint, and the larger version allows one to appreciate the details. I'll have to go and have a look at the earlier shot now.

Excellent, striking and bold capture of this portly fellow. A superb street photo and a good b/w conversion which strong light and shadow. Perhaps this man is quite proud of his belly. I like the blurry semi-industrial background.

Superbly timed street photo which uses the red items in the scene so effectively. I think the viewpoint is excellent, with the stripes making a bold statement in the foreground, and you timed it to get the woman in a very good position. Well done.

    Hello Gert.

Interesting composition and intriguing title, which I thought at first might apply to the rather peaceful looking souls looking on. You timed this well to catch the red coated woman in the scene, matching nicely one of the main colours in the artwork. As usual your first class note adds hugely to the value of the picture. And the larger version allows one to take in the details of Grayson Perry's work. He's such an interesting fellow, Perry. I wonder if you have seen him on TV. He's done some remarkable programs, revealing him to be an eccentric but extremely insightful and irreverent individualist.

    Hello John.
It's election day here, and since I've already voted (after lining up for over an hour - what a privilege) I have nothing better to do than get back into TE.

Your shot is very well exposed/processed to bring out the detail really well in the shadowy area particularly in the lower part of the photo, which is also highlighted by the reflections in the windows. The details are as sharp as ever - a look at the larger version was very rewarding. The viewpoint makes this impressive building seem to tower over us.

I occasionally have a look at the Scotsman digital version online; I would say it is better than any newspapers in this country. Particularly interesting now that everyone is wondering what Scotland will do following the Brexit. No doubt the prices charged to stay in this hotel are obscene, so I will probably never stay there.

    Regards,
    Andrew
