    Hi Bev
This looks like a classic 'calendar' shot, and I mean that in the most complimentary way. It's 'busy' in one sense, but there are clear angles and lines of perspective, strong foreground interest, and the all-important girls on the seat. The eye is drawn nicely from the nearest small boats, past the girls to the sunlit buildings top right. I thought the girl on the right had a far-away wistful kind of look, but I've just noticed the squatting boy she might be staring at. Anyway, the whole thing casts a pleasant nostalgic spell. Very nicely done.

    Hello Gert.
I am glad to see your long series of old photos from yesteryear is still going strong. The photos bring a strong sense of nostalgia, that seems especially poignant in the case of Afghanistan. I suppose the donkey has been replaced by the Toyota Hilux or something similar. Here, the donkey seems to be acting as a kind of mobile market stall, with the produce in the buckets. It's actually hard to imagine people going about their modest lives in such peaceful settings nowadays. Very fine scanning to produce such a great image. And I'm glad your 'larger' images are not so large they do not fit in a browser window on a 24" monitor. It's plenty large enough to see all the detail here, the highlight of which is the nicely patterned rig on the donkey's rear end.

    Hi Neyvan
That is surely a most spectacular view, with enormous depth and space. I love the contrasting, darker bit of rock formation in the foreground, against the hazy look of the more distant slopes and cliffs. Wonderful view, nicely presented.

    Hello Abmdsudi
I appreciate very much this panoramic shot of the capital with the light and shade on the old buildings and the clear sky. Wonderful note - the first paragraph I could have written myself after visiting Burma nearly 40 years ago. Those original but crumbling neighbourhoods, weeds growing in cracks in road and footpath. And at night men working under ancient trucks cannibalising them for spare parts. Maybe some things have changed since then. I found the people to be wonderful. It's very sad that the regime is one of the worst in the world.

    Hello Dwaipayan
I like your gallery a lot. I remember some of your photos from when I was more active. This one is so nicely composed and presented. It gives a quite breathtaking view of the scenery on both sides of the lake, and has great depth. I like the inclusion of the walker in the scene as it reminds us of the human activity which produced these cairns. Very well done.

I like this kind of photo - shooting towards the late sun, with long shadows and long strips of bright sunlight, plus the silhouette of a human figure. Very nicely done and good note of explanation. I think this is better than the other photo.

    Hi Malgo
Good to see you're still going everywhere and producing lots of photos. I immediately liked to see this one, as it reminded me of my trip on the Trans-Siberian in 1975! I went by train from London to Nahodka, and then took a ferry to Yokohama. I'm sure the trains have improved a lot - I think in those days there was only one type of passenger train - and especially the food, which was absolutely terrible. I remember vividly the many small towns and villages we passed through, and day after day of the same scenery. Of course, in that distant time the cold war was at its height, and no one new that communism and the USSR would come to an end. Thanks for this fascinating photo and note.

    Greetings Gunnar.
A lovely lake view, highlighted by the clouds' reflections and the orange vest of the man in the boat. It's a delightful view of Summer stillness, and almost fits on my 24" screen. The larger image is quite breathtaking, although personally I would crop a bit off the top to make it more panoramic. I found the map view very useful, thanks, and the note is very good.

    Hello John
I am glad to see you are still providing a wonderful pictorial presentation of Ghent on TE. I remember well this square, and the interior of the Cloth Hall from our holidays in Ghent some years ago. It's always fascinated me how no matter which angle one chooses, one of the other 'three towers' is always in the picture. I think that is the Theatre on the right. I watched a play in that theatre, using headphones to listen to an English translation of the script.

    Hello Stephen
A very large old church by the look of it - with the lone figure giving a sense of scale. The note is very interesting. We don't often see churches photographed with this pov - you did pretty well to fit it all into the frame. I think you must have done some distortion correction, and perhaps overdone it a little on the right, where the tower is leaning outwards very slightly. Hardly worth mentioning, especially as I do it all the time! I find I can detect that kind of thing if I look at a photo a few days after messing with it.

    Andrew

    Hello Claude
This is such a typical English scene - and I don't mean just the beer, flags and Tudor half-timbered buildings, also the umbrellas! You framed this very well, giving a shot full of things to look closely at, with the focal point perhaps being the man in black sweater, almost looking at camera, on the left side. I think the English summer without rain would be a strange thing.

    Hello John
A good crop to make a well balanced composition in which the obvious focal point in the left corner draws the eye in contrast to the rising bulk of the intriguing Soller bank on the right. These days it's hard to take a shot in any city or even village without some innocuous bystander using a mobile phone, but this one doesn't detract at all from the elegant fountain. This type of square is something I sorely miss in Australia.

    Hi Michael
I have a couple of kissing shots in my gallery, and I must confess I like this one too. They seem oblivious to your presence. You placed them well in the landscape frame, and the short depth of field works very well - I think you must have used a longer focal length with the zoom to get that effect. Nice work. Looks an interesting camera, the XT1, from what I have seen.

A nice shot of these well-dressed, healthy looking youngsters. It gives one a sense of daily life in this faraway place. I like the fact that the are engaged in their conversations and thoughts rather than smiling at you. The cyclist's t-shirt evinces a certain patriotism!

Poscard perfect! And I mean that in a complimentary sense. Beautiful colours and a few hints of Autumn, especially the light. The two dogs on the grass just help to bring the subjects a little closer to the right corner, making it an excellent composition. I think the shutter speed was just fast enough to freeze the movement here. Well done.

    Hello Wolfgang
I like this street photo very much. A wonderful piece of timing to catch the woman in such a pose right in front of those photos. Crop your passer-by down to head and shoulders and you could put her on a stretched canvas with the others, her stylish use of the phone replacing the cigarette of yesteryear. You cropped this well for optimal effect, and of course it just had to be b/w.
