    Hello dear Barbara,

In pre-digital days I took dozens of slides of the ball court in Chichen Itza, but your expansive shot shows it off better than any of my photos. I like very much the colors of the grass and the stones walls.

    Warm regards,

    Bonjour cherrie, Gigi,

I have always wanted to see Bruges, and in your photo I get a good idea of its 17th century (and older) building. Our good friend John Maenhout has been very generous with his photos from Bruges, and recently we watched "Salamander," the TV series making the Belgium and Bruges very alluring.

    Warmest regards, Gigi,

    Hello Malgorzata,

Whenever I see photo of the wilderness of Norway, I picture in my mind's eye the Vikings. No doubt they wandered into this cove one time or another. This is a serene view in the middle of summer. You asked whether we had ever been Lofoten, we have not. We have been to the North Cape a couple of times and remember having a photo taken at midnight with a clock right behind us, without any artificial light.

    Warmest regards,

    Hello Piotr,

This is really one of the most beautiful photos in your rich gallery. Perched at the crest of the rugged mountains, you can see the drop off on the left immersed in soup fog, on the right, the details a sharp. I've heard of the rugged beauty of Slovakia, otherwise I know precious little about the difference in the Czech vs. Slovak sides. Again, this is a first rate photo.

    Hello Jasmine,

The light is genuinely beautiful on the Georgian house, bathing it in golden hues, and a highly distressed sky looming in the background. I think this is the best way to photograph some of the architecture anywhere. With a frequency of once per year I would see this sort of inspiring light while living in Oxford. Unfortunately it was during pre-digital photography days.

    Warm regards,

    Hello Brenda,

I thought I had critiqued this photo, but clearly I had not (I may have run out of green smileys). The vertical format is indeed the best way to accentuate the midget among giants. You had wonderful light to shoot this image. Indeed, with that wonderful reflection, in the curved glass, the facets accentuated by discontinuities in the reflected clouds. It might be a good choice for the group theme City reflections, if you care to put it there.

Incidentally, we are going to be in New York in late September. I am giving a lecture at One Day University, please, let me know and I will have them invite you.

    Mon cher ami, Philippe,

You have more recent posts than this, but I love the light and shadows on your photo of Château de Rouville. Certainly its Renaissance era construction is apparent, but its ownership and alteration by the d'Auboville Family ownership in the 19th century is also apparent. It would be unwise for windows to be located on the ground floor in times of siege.

    Warm regards, Philippe,

Last October I saw an AWACS plane while touring the Aircraft Carrier Midfield, docked in San Diego. But to see it aloft, and with such spectacular light, now that is rare. Excellent photo, and a short but informative note.

This is a lovely photo, that I regret not taking years ago when I climbed the heights of Geirangefjord. I didn't know about the tradition visitors leaving their marks and the declaration, "I was here!" A very sharp and well composed view of a simple scene.

    Bonsoir Jean Claude,

This is a magnificent shot from the "land of castles and bridges," as it was described to me when I flew on Luxair Airlines and made an overnight stopover in Luxemburg. This is a most alluring scene from the marina in Porto do Barqueiro, the small fishing boats anchored or tied down. The colors are vibrant. Judging by the stains on the walls, the tide must vary quite a bit here.

Your research paid of handsomely, allowing you to catch Fabienne Borget in an encore. It's an excellent shot, well illuminated and exceptionally sharp. It seems as if you are viewing the performance from a lower tier box in the opera house Covent Gardens. I enjoyed reading your note.

    Hello Murat Bey,

This is a well composed shot that captures the moment from the Dr. Seuss Landing very effectively. The rich colors and the high resolution are on display here, with a clear message that the quality of digital images really has caught up and perhaps surpassed analogue slides. Is the Nikon D7000 new in your photo arsenal, or have you had it for awhile?
