    Hello Silvio,

Your photograph is a powerful reminder of the catastrophic earthquake that took its toll. I understand over 290 people perished in the earthquake.

My deep sympathies to the courageous people of Italy.

    Hello Serghei,

Indeed, like fresh bread pulled out of the oven, it was shot and posted the same day. The sun filters through the morning dusk creating a lovely atmosphere.

This is a timely contribution I like the almost perfect symmetry in the composition. This was shot, I presume, during your visit when we got together in Pasadena.

    Hello Noel,

The splash of colors against a lush green Irish landscape, the ruins of medieval buildings as a backdrop... this is a wonderfully eye-catching shot. I thought for a moment that you were running backward while focusing on the phalanx of runners. Your note is engaging, but in America, these men might be considered on the slim side.

    Hello Craig,

A vertical format works well here, accentuating the verticality of the scene. I can imagine how daunting a task it would have been to lay siege here, Macbeth ordering his troops to charge ahead. Excellent shot.

    Hello Bev,

The countryside is selectively bathed in sunlight, suggesting a giant brush at work. It's a beautiful shot.

As for the slope, is that 4:1 or 1:4. The former corresponds to 75° and the latter to 14°.

    Warm regards, Bev,

    Hello Chris,

This is a spectacular capture of the light and colors of Thessaloniki's harbor. Moreover, like a weather report, you've posted the photo the day you took it, revealing the local weather. The city is where my grandfather, and his buddy Ataturk, were both born in 1881. I visited Ataturk's home in 2006, and also the mound grave of Philip of Macedon. The Turkish name for the city Selanik.

    Hello Ike,

The old relic is a good reminder of the hard life of our ancestors, but, of course, they felt the same way about their ancestors with horses and oxen pulling plows. There is good contrast here between a newer model with the massive treaded tires in distinction to this solid wheel model.

The photo and the note are perfect. I like being introduced to something new, and Piazza Gae Aulenti is new for me. But what I like best is the Rosetta Stone like note in English and Italian that I can use to improve my broken Italian.

    Hello dear Malgorzata,

Whenever Carol Jean hears someone say "Bulent is such a good photographer," she feels compelled to straighten them out, "You should see our friend Malgorzata's photos." Nine years, where did the years go. And I joined a year before you, but you rapidly overtook me in quantity and quality. I am always in awe of your scanned slides, Kodachrome most likely, no other film has the color fidelity and resilience. In 1983 we were in China, I know the big cities have seen so much building, but I cannot imagine Yunnan having seen that much progress. I enjoyed the other photos you posted in support of this one.

    Hello Stephen,

Old worn, chipped doors, their paint peeling overpainted time after time... have a certain charm. I just put this lovely shot in the group theme Old Doors. What I especially like is the street sign, Rue Blaise Pascal, a great 17th-century physicist-mathematician. You probably already know that the "pascal" is unit of pressure. It's great honor for scientists to have units named after them, e.g. newtons, farads, amperes, coulombs...
