    Hello Mariusz,

You had superb light in photographing Tynemouth Castle, I imagine a victim of Henry VIII's dissolution of the (Catholic) institutions. this is a crowded cemetery. It's unlikely the headstone date back to 16th century.

Sensation photo, Piotr. I hope it gets the attention it deserves. In the pre-digital age, I was visiting the key Observatory at the top of 4200 m Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Because of the danger to the telescopes from headlights, it is necessary to vacate the place before sunset. I could see the shadow of the mountain in the air, but the sheer disparity in scale made it impossible to see myself. could this have been an instance of Brocken Spectra?

    Hello Michelle,

Such colorful flowers against the silhouette of the old palace. I was there once, but could not remember the name until I saw your excellent note.

Warm regards to you and your family. I've been very bad in writing blogs for the National Geographic, but I did write one about Robin Williams's suicide.

    Hello Chris

This is certainly the most eye catching photo I've seen on Trekearth since I returned from New Zealand a few days ago. It appears that you are now ensconced in Romania. The reflections of the trees in the lake are so dramatic.

    Hello Andy,

This is a wonderful portrait of the young woman, bearing an infectious warm smile. However, if you don't mind, I am going to do a very simple workshop on the photo, in order to illustrate a recently discovered principle of composition.

Christopher Tyler, a British born psychologist practicing in San FranciscoIt, discovered in 1998 that in almost all great single-subject portraits, one eye passes through the vertical bisector of the frame. This is true of Leonardo's few but great portraits, Rembrandt's countless self-portraits, even Picasso's works, and this could be the leading or the trailing eye. Accordingly, I cropped the image a little on the right to get the subject's left eye close to bisector. This is a simple principle that is never taught in art schools, but the greatest of all painters appear to discover the practice independently, and inadvertently. This is a useful principle for photographers to know about. It appears that we focus on one eye. Take a look at "Rembrandt at 400". I wrote about this principle in a book I wrote about Leonardo, "Math and the Mona Lisa."

    Warm regards,

    Bonjour, Mon Cher ami Philippe,

As usual you give us a superb autumn view, and as you do sometimes, submit a beautiful poem to accompany it. I just returned from a lengthy trip to the South Pacific, where they are just in Spring (Printemps) and ascending into summer, we are in Autumn and descending into Winter. They do not have the beautiful colors of Fall, but then we do not have their warming weather.

    Warm regards, my friend,
