    Hello Abmdsudi

Blue and yellow always works as a contrast and is attractive to the eye. Very well exposed foreground too with enough detail of the buildings coming through the shadows. Sharp and noise free - always difficult in low light. Well done.

    Cheers

    Hello Serge

A nicely composed image with graduated layers from dark to light giving depth and dividing the image into graphic shapes. A shot that it would be so hard to expose right but you have managed it very well here.

    cheers

    Hello Bev

I like the use of the wall as a line and I like how the line of trees dips down. Together these two factors divide the shot into distinct areas of light an dark creating graphic structure and shape in doing so.

The icy winds of the polar north do indeed make the place feel more than a little monochrome - even when the sun shines, the high contrast from a sun hanging low in the sky shining directly at you renders the world monochrome at various points throughout the day. Makes it hard to take decent images!

    Cheers

    Hello Gert

Yes - I suppose of the three images this one is compositionally the best and provides the human presence required for street images. It tells a story in a more immediate sense, a story amplified by the title. That's not to say that street images with no people present have little to say. I liked the third image that you originally contemplated for posting. There is a contrast between 'anticariat' (antique store in Romanian I believe) and the ice cream stall. The old dated book stall that in the digital age some might argue is a thing of the past - I carry about 40 books around on my tablet with me but I can only read one at a time, though I tend to dip in and out of various books unless its a book of fiction. Then the ice cream stall - an age of leisure suggested but no one joining in at that stall either - quite a tension and a comment on cultural change in a subtle way - for me a far stronger message than the mere search for knowledge from yesteryear which may well be irrelevant today.

A thought, provoking series of images! Thanks for sharing - take care.

    Cheers

Great image. I like the contrast of light and shade and the way you have framed the castle using the shadow and crowned it with the clouds. It creates a great overall composition. Well done.

    Hello Ann

I have a photo almost identical to this one that made use of shadows to cast a pattern as yours does. Great minds think alike and we are no lesser minds for thinking the same way!

Very carefully chosen POV that allows the lines of the roof to continue almost uninterrupted as they become shadow.

    Hi Andrew

Boy do I know this place well! I spent a lot of time going in and out of that station and taking photos around Federation square. It is architecturally an amazing building. We stayed in Sunbury just outside Melbourne and rode the train in many times.I should have looked you up whilst I was there. Maybe next time.

It was weird being in Melbourne just after Xmas last year with the sun burning whilst it was freezing cold at home. Kind of made Xmas feel weird!

    Take care

I too passed this spouting water dragon on a boat as you have here when we visited Singapore. I remember this place very well. thank you for sharing this it brought back memories. Hello Ourania

A very effective overhead shot that captures the shadow and light creatively. i noticed your watermark is sideways so tilted the image to portrait and I think it is even more powerful as a creative impact in that orientation but that is just to my mind and probably no one else's! I like this image very much. Well done and have a great day.

Clever shot that illustrates the idea of the Old Man and the Sea well. The sepia tone transports us back in time to imagine that this man could be Hemingway. Well thought through image.

    Hello Kasia

I like how you have used the DOF to isolate the monk as the subject - he really stands out almost in 3D.

The alms dish,or whatever it is he is holding, ironically looks like the lid off the top of a takeaway coffee.. I notice too the sunburn lines of his sandal on his foot... so I guess going barefoot is not part of the deal.

His eyes do look a little mournful which adds to the effect of the picture.

    Very clear and sharp image.

    Thanks! Cheers
