    Merhaba Murat Bey,

This photo stokes intense nostalgia in my bones. My father, as Org. Kemal Atalay, was the Commander of the First Army several decades ago, and in fact, it was on his watch that the top floor was restored as Florence Nightingale's Hospital. On a summer visit to Istanbul, I watched his retirement ceremony as a "changing of the guard." Then when he passed away in February 2003, I was there for his funeral and then his interment across the Bosphorus. Your note complements the photo effectively.

    Warm regards,

    Hello Gyorgy,

This is a very good candid shot of the photographer concentrating on his subject. Meanwhile, as photographers ourselves I can't think of anyone who would not feel obligated to see what he is shooting. Of course, it also gives us an opportunity to see what others regard as worthy shooting.

    Warm regards,

Your note is a very good addition to the photo. I imagine they used mainly charcoal to draw the petroglyphs, but do you happen to know how old they are?

    Hello Brenda,

Your note raised and answered a number of questions for me. The legendary Gimbel's, I wondered why I hadn't heard of it in years. Now I also know the location of the flying bridge that I had seen before but had forgotten about. It's a wonderful note and complementary photo.

    Hello Ike,

I have been reading Shakespeare's Macbeth and can feel the hostile climate. In my mind's ear, I can hear the sound of that rushing river. Through those thick clouds, you can make out the sun creating a glow. You've captured the atmosphere beautifully.

    Hello Craig,

Your photograph is a first rate piece of art. The clean lines radiating down from the top left, the presence of the young woman in just the right spot, and even the choice of B&W collaborate to make the photo an absolutely first-rate masterpiece.

I'm sorry I didn't know that you were in the East Coast. It would have been a pleasure to host you in Washington, DC and in historic Virginia.

    Dear John,

In this excellent action shot. you've captured a fleeting instant with sharp focus on the Piper Cup aircraft and a blurred background accentuating the motion. While a university student I was a member of the Air Force Reserve Officer's Training Corps for two years. I was not very good at marching, but I benefited immensely by learning to fly in one and two-engine Cesna aircraft.

This is a lovely monument to past technology a water well dating to Renaissance times, its mechanism on full display, and sitting in the middle of a square near the city center. I like the definition of the brickwork, I imagine still the authentic structure.

    Hello Bev,

Candid shots remain my preference when there are people involved. It's no wonder the tourist is a young American and my guess it would be a Californian (they have more gall). They are more friendly, wear their feelings on their sleeves, and are generally attractive. Descendants of the covered wagons making their trek across the continent during the last century could have been related to the convicts being shipped to Australia in the 19th century. It's a lovely photo, I have no idea where she comes from, but I'm sure the period warrior is enjoying it. (By the way, there is an alternate plate tectonic theory about the entire country being tilted, and that all loose nuts and bolts roll down to Southern California.

    Warm regards,

    Bulent

    Hello Paul,

This is a fascinating archaeological site that I knew nothing about. The monoliths are somewhat reminiscent of the Mayan Ruins in Honduras, the Toltec Ruins in Mexico, and, if they are astronomical, perhaps the Avebury and Stonehenge. Were there any explanations about their astronomical alignments? It's good to learn something new, I had not heard of the Muisca that survived for a thousand years, but then like so many other civilizations just disappeared.

    Warm regards,
