    Greetings Will,

This is a fantastic shot in what looks like relatively poor lighting conditions. Perfect lighting on the stones themselves - any darker and they would have disappeared in to the background. The B&W gives a dramatic impact to the sky - with the Monty Python-esque hole-for-god giving a religous feel to this important archaeological site. I really like it, thanks, Iain

    Greetings Christiane,

There are a number of shots on TE of the Dali lips - but this is the best of the images I have seen. My own opinion, when photographing artwork, is that one should avoid the postcard approach (or glossy, coffee table book reproduction) and try to interpret the piece to produce one's own art - and this you have really achieved. With the inclusion of the two canvasses in the background you have included the lips in your own version of a portrait. Nice saturation, by the way. I really like this shot, Iain.

    Greetings Abmdsudi,

I know Cape Town quite well and I love photographing in the Bo Kaap, but this is a PoV that I have not come across before - nice work. Good colours in the foreground and your wide-angle lens has given some real drama to the sky.

    I like it, thanks, Iain

    Greetings Gy,

Very, very nice. It looks like very poor weather and I suspect a uniformly grey sky - and in this context the B&W finish ramps up the drama quite significantly. I like the solid black line of trees which break through the more muted greys of the rest of the shot and the high-grain finish works very well - lending a lot of ambiguity to the castle (is it a building? Is it a rocky outcrop?). Nice work, thanks, Iain

    Greetings Noel,

A lovely, minimalistic shot in all senses of the word: a restricted palette; clean, simple lines and outlines; and a sky which is interesting, but not over-the-top exciting. I suspect this would be a mind-blowing shot if blown up to enormous size - 2 or 3 metres on the longest edge. Nice work, Iain

I love the perspective effects on this one - you seem to have a vanishing point way off the bottom of the frame which gives quite an unusual PoV. Good management of the light and dark areas and the water provides a nice background. regards, Iain

    Greetings Rob,

I have been really enjoying your highly creative reflections and this is one of my favourites. What makes it stand out is the contrast between the cloud filled sky in the reflection and the virtual absence of clouds in the actual sky in the picture. To enhance the picture even further (imho) I might be tempted to crop out the very few, very tiny clouds right at the top of the frame. Btw, there is also a lovely contrast between the deeper blue of the reflected sky and the lighter of the actual. Nice work, thanks, Iain

    Greetings Erlin,

A fantastic shot - the light from the window works very well, but the reflections turn this into something very special - it makes the floor look like it is covered in water (tears, waterboarding?). A very artistic impression of a place with quite an awful history. Very nice work, Iain

    Greetings Jean,

Some photographs are crying out to be enlarged to large size to deliver their full impact - this one seems to work best as a thumbnail: if you ever print your work, my recommendation is that this should be a miniature in a small frame. The strength of the shot resides in the two complementary and contrasting lines - a horizontal stripe of blue and a vertical stripe of red. My monitor gives me about a 20cm by 30cm enlargement in which the business of the yachts and the background buildings detract from what makes the thumbail very special. A very, very good shot - at a small enlargement. regards, Iain

    Greetings Malgo,

A very nicely composed shot - in terms of the rule-of-thirds you have a nice three-part composition with the boats and water features, the brightly painted and sunlit section of the town and the more sombre and greyer cliff and cliff-top buildings. You are very close to over-saturating the colours (one of my own bad habits), but I think you jut about get away with it in this shot. Nice work, thanks, Iain

    Greetings Lars,

A nice shot of a famous bridge (I have a version of my own on TE so we can compare notes). You have an interesting PoV which looks to me to be from the north side of the Forth - most of the photos I have seen (including my own) are taken from the more accessible South. I rather like the white sections in the middle cantilever which add a touch of colour to the beautiful red of the bridge. Thanks, regards, Iain

    Greetings Danos,

This is a great shot - revealing quite a few layers of interpretation. On the thumbnail, I genuinely thought it was a man in a mask working on a computer. The three-quarter profile from above, combined with the very recently shaved head gives a real double take as to mask? make up? make-up-as-a-mask? A great shot. I might be tempted to crop a little at the bottom = the pink object in the extreme bottom-left corner does not really add much to the shot. regards and thanks, Iain

A very nice work in some difficult light and climate conditions. As you hint at - it is the couple that really turn this shot away from a bad-weather-postcard to something quite special. I love the way that we seem to be looking at a very different view to them. Nice work, thanks, Iain

This is a very spectacular sky - with some nice light management on the street and buildings. The hazards of modern photography - it is a bit of a shame about the traffic light in the picture, but overall a great shot.

    Greetings Benny,

I have tons of inside-a-church-shooting-up-in-to-the-dome(s) type of shots, but this one of yours is quite special. The paintings remind me of the Ethiopian Byzantine tradition and seem quite well preserved. The light coming in from the windows of the dome and the way you have managed the contrast with some quite deep shadows make this photo special. Thanks, Iain
