    Takero San,

This is a remarkable photo of deep-freeze. I visited Asahi Kawa and felt the cold in the mountains, but this is a blizzard condition. I like the pink glow in the sky.

Warm regards (pun intended). Your email address tkrkw6t@nifty.com did not work for me. The email I sent came back, "Your message wasn't delivered to tkrkw6t@nifty.com because the address couldn't be found."

    Hello Ike,

I didn't know about the existence of this tower until I saw it in your gallery. It is a clever way, with a horizontal pole and angled flags. Incidentally, Lord Nelson's flagship the HMS Victory is in drydock in Portsmouth. During the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, he was mortally wounded. To get his remains back to England, they "pickled" him in a barrel of brandy.

    Hello Gert,

It's a fabulous scene in B&W. It could have appeared in a National Geographic Magazine from the 1920's-1940s. The British especially developed B&W Ilford film that displayed this type of sharpness. The lack of crowds makes it especially eye-pleasing. I'll send you an email.

    Bonjour mon ami, Philippe,

This small train is actually much large than some I've seen on Greek Islands that take visitors on short rides through the city. This one clearly has a great deal more horsepower, and go into the countryside. A perfect vantage point to shoot the photo.

    Hello Stephen,

I am fascinated by the variation in church architecture from country to country, even differences between Portuguese and Spanish churches, although both Catholic. You chose a symmetric perspective, and achieved very good depth-of-field. I like the warm colors of the wood floor, and cool colors of the stone... and of course the very good note.

    Warm regards,

    Dear John,

With a perfect vantage point, you photographed the magnificent new organ and the organist, so important for the composition. I listened to the sound of the organ at the link you sent. This is a wonderful post. The organ is still playing as I type and watch the photo.

Perfect timing — you captured the kayak, the rower, and the immense ship juxtaposed. I imagine the depth marking would make a nice straight line seen from a vantage point to the right.

    Good Morning, Jean,

Actually, here it is 2:40 in the morning and this critique will be the last thing I'll do before retiring for the night. The expansive view shows a winter view which must be very different than when it melts in a few months. I imagine the snow capped mountains will remain white. The tiny skiers in the distance giving scale to the scene.

    Hello Brenda,

I like the shot and I like the note. I had heard also of the alternate name "Fuller Building." Would that have been the "Fuller Brushes," sold by door-to-door in the distant past? The only exception I have to the photo is in your having flipped it. I will do two workshops: first to rotate the photo 180°, and second, to flip it upside down. that we can compare them side-by-side.

I'm afraid, so far the political division has gotten even worse than I had anticipated, upside down!

    Hello Serghei,

It's a touching photo with the handicapped man writing out a message. (I am sure it is not a politically derogatory message.) I think the bottom of the narrative is in the foreground and he is writing upside down. I will ask a Chinese friend, a professor in the United States, see what the meaning is. One thing certain, it's beautiful art.

This is a wonderful demonstration of one point perspective with the lines of perspective, "orthogonals," all converging on a single point on the horizon line. The colors of the flowing bushes adds a highlight red.

    Merhaba Erdem Bey,

How wonderful to see your return after a lengthy sabbatical. This is a beautifully composed photo where one of the four minarets of Aya Sofya stands as focal point at roughly the golden ratio (5:3) with the majestic Blue Mosque providing the backdrop. I hope you and your family are well, especially in the divisive times all over the world. I fear we have four Caligulas, born as identical quartets and separated at birth, having converged on the world stage.

It's a wonderfu photo of a scene I know well.

    Hello Ana,

This is a wonderful action shot by sunset. You've captured the moment beautifully, the boy making a devil's leap. It's reminiscent of a fleeting moment I was able to freeze while visiting North Shore of Oahu, see In flight. I hope you are well in the New Year. Hello Zbigniew,

I like very much the symmetric perspective you selected to shoot this wonderful photo. In January 2010 I stood at the same spot, but there was construction/restoration going on, and a large curtain was draped over a large portion of the building. The masterpiece, Nightwatch, that you mention is truly magnificent, but it is a testimony to the saying, "There is a limit to genius, but stupidity knows no bounds." They cut off several feet (over 1 meter) from one end of the painting in order to fit it into the designated room. It's a wonderful photo of the great museum. But for a painting as great is your country of birth, Leonardo's "Portrait of Cecilia Gallerani" (otherwise known as "Lady with an Ermine") the treasure of the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow.
