    Greetings Alexandre,

A simple composition, but a very nice one. With a few elements you have built some nice contrasts. Lots of nice textures and the tiles at he top form a very nice upper frame. There is just enough of a hint of detail on the interior to give a sense of mystery. Regards, Iain.

    Greetings Christiane.

This is fantastic use of the sandstorm conditions to get a very atmospheric work. I really like the mystery implied by the veiled background. The positioning of the tumbleweeds in the foreground is just perfect. Great work, Iain.

    Greetings Gert,

This sort of gathering is a significant part of travelling around in Africa - and any photo from Eritrea deserves a comment. Especially in cities in Africa crowds of people are a travelling phenomenon and I find it interesting that your shot is virtually indistinguishable from a Christian feast day down to the green branches which could be from Palm Sunday. The non-white colours in the front left echo the highly starched uniform of Zionist Christian Churches and Jericho churches of Southern Africa. I think you have a great shot here - full of life, of pattern and of colour. Regards, Iain.

    Greetings Benny,

A very mysterious piece of work - the high contrast and the black and white finish leave the viewer wondering whether this hotel is actually empty and ruined, rather than being a flagship building. A great piece, in which the simple but effective compositional elements tell a story. Regards and thanks, Iain.

Now here is a great example of how to photograph a very, very famous location and produce an image which is fresh and original with your own personality in it. This is a lovely, tight crop which brings out the symmetry and geometry for which the Alhambra is justly famous. Regards and thanks, Iain.

    Greetings John,

You have some lovely tones on the ground and a nice. low horizon. Also some nice tones in the sky to avoid uniformity. The starburst is a nice idea, but in my own opinion is just a bit too perfect. A great shot, Iain.

    Greetings Bev,

Indeed - a great shot which captures the child-like (but not childish) romance of castles. Great foreground with the daffodils and the positioning of the castle, taking up a relatively small portion of the frame (together with the low PoV) emphasises the isolation in the environment. In this specific case, I am not sure about the presence of the three people in the frame - the shot could be even better if the building was in complete isolation. My opinion, anyway - but a lovely shot. Thanks, Iain.

    Greetings Malgo,

2001 was the final year of my seven years of Mexico - wonder how close we were to each other at the moment this shot was taken??? Not so much a critique as a thanks-for-the-memories of the green vochito taxis. The print suffers a little from the scanning process, but is a great TE shot - taking us away from the stereotype of Mexico to an appreciation of how amazing the modern architecture can be in that country. Thanks and regards, Iain.

I thought from the thumbnail that you might even be in Mexico here (where I have seen actual frontages that would rival the light show here). I like the precision of the light show to place the elements exactly where they were wanted and the precision of your own work to show us what was done. Regards, Iain.

    Greetings Claude,

This is such an English photograph - so much so that it may take an outsider's eye to recognise and capture it. The setting in Manchester and the class-elements added by the contrast between the flat-cap and the top-hat feels like the starting point for 100 possible stories. Nice work, Iain.

    Greetings Luciano,

This is a stunning composition with lots of great contrasts - the triangle of shade in the bottom third, against the imposing hillside background, the man-made versus the natural, the use of a few colours to great effect. I rather like the way the two people in anoraks are dwarfed by their surroundings. Regards, Iain.

    Greetings Gyorgy,

What strikes me first about this shot is how familiar the foreground is to me - the tyre tracks in the long grass could be taken in many rainy parts of Africa. The background sets up a real dissonance in my expectations, but then when my eyes return to the sky I am back on familiar terrain. A nice piece which sandwiches a surprise between two familiar elements. Iain.

    Greetings Danos,

Sometimes zooming in for a closely cropped shot works wonders at other times, like here, pulling back and putting an object in its context is what adds to the quality. The PoV is one I have not seen before and allows the surrounding mountains to dwarf the imposing outcrop that the monastery sits on. You can see from the position and the bus which PoV 99% will return home with. Regards and thanks, Iain.

    Greetings Kasia,

It is a bit of a task heading back towards the workshop of an older photograph - but well worth the effort in this case. I am assuming he is way up on the main dome, but can shed no reason as to why. I love the good tight crop which takes any hint of the sky or a background to the building literally out of the picture. The man, while in sharp and clear focus is relatively insignificant compared to his background - which I suspect is also part of the meanings of this photo. Nice work, thanks, Iain.

A very nice and highly geometric composition. Good use of B&W for a timeless feel on the building. I like your PoV with the first pillar filling the full vertical frame and the two opposite arcs giving some interesting pattern to the vertical lines. Nice work, thanks, Iain.

A lovely shot - could very easily be on display in a gallery. The black and white finish works very nicely, and I am imagining you lugging a major tripod over the rocks so that you could get a long-exposure on the sea. Lovely work, thanks, Iain.
