The soft focus and the beautiful color serve to make this horse and rider stand out well from the background. It makes a nice documentary shot. One small point, the center of the frame is usually the weakest place to place the main image, if it had been placed a little to the right, it would have had even more dramatic effect. However, it is a fine shot. Regards Kevin

Hi Lisa. I love the outback and I love the Uluru National Park. Last time I was there, i remember I stayed at a hotel, called The Lost Camel, very atmospheric. The challenge is always to get an image, different from the images that everyone gets here, and you have done that magnificently You have built your composition around that lovely, twisted tree stump, that looks so dramatic, almost like a crucifix. The bush land around it is well shown as is the lovely rock formation in the background. One small point, it seems to me to have a slight yellow color cast. You may well have chosen that deliberately, but I like it even more, with the color pushed back into a slightly cooler register. Anyway, It's a great sho. I wish I had taken it. Regards Kevin

What a great shot! The green rice field look so good against the water filled fields. I t makes a strong beautiful abstract shapes. I just wonder if it might have been even better if there had been a touch more exposure to put some detail in the white fields. Regards Kevin

I love this image, Ana, I love the way the cool blue sings against the lovely warm sand colour. The profile view suits the scene perfectly, giving it a sort of archaic look.. I might have cropped it a little tighter to the classic 1/3 rule, pushing the figure more away from the center. This image show that surprisingly one can get good images in the glare of the midday sun. Congratulations. Kevin

Hi Nick. This is an attractive scene, nicely sharp and with a good composition, with the river providing a lead line into the frame. However, for my taste, it is far too saturated and contrasting. Looking at your gallery, I see you have some interesting images, but you tend, in my view, to use far too much saturation and contrast throughout. You images would be more natural and better if you keep the saturation and contrast in normal bounds. Regards Kevin

Hi, Ravi. This is a scene that I have tried to photograph, myself, but at Varanasi, I believe it was started during the 1970s but local hotel keepers. I did not know it was practiced elsewhere in India. It is very difficult to photograph because of the poor light. Here you have composed the shot well and it is catches the atmosphere well, but sadly it is too soft To be a successful photograph there really has to be something in sharp focus. At F5.3 the depth of field was far too shallow and at 1/5 second the speed was far too show to give you a chance of sharpness. I assume you used the highest ISO that your camera has. So what to do?? At least you got the colour and atmosphere Best wishes Kevin

This is an interesting subject, Bernie, but it fails to isolate the subject from the messy background, which distracts from the subject. There was not much you could have done in the situation but you could have tried different angles, to find a more favorable one. A larger aperture would certainly have thrown the background into soft focus and improved the shot, say f5, would have done it. Regards Kevin

A very striking image, maria, the colors are wonderful. The horizon is well placed away from the centre and your soilitary figure is perfectly placed on the 1/3 point.Your horizon is not quite straight, you could just straighten it, but it is of little importance. Reagrds kevin

A very well seen image,Luciano. Its a great illustration of what effect can be achieve using reflection. The scene is full of interest. I wonder what is would look like if you had taken it square on and used the window area alone. It probably would not look better, it would just be another way to present it. Regards Kevin

This is a nice street scene shot, with interesting detail. The late afternoon light is still too bright, the shadows too dark.. Technically there is over exposure in the fruit, where the highlights were burnt out and the man has shadows and highlights too contrasting. There was probably nothing you could do with that light. A slower speed would have given better exposure in the fruit etc. but made the shadows darker. As for composition, the man is walking out of the frame and is close to the edge, which feels awkward. I think it would have been better if you had waited for a more favorable position. Regards kevin

What a lovely image. The foreground and background are nicely sharp. The somber colours are rich and beautiful. the bather adds a touch of drama and a human touch. It is a pity that you did not wait until she turned around or moved, so that you might have presented her in a more interesting pose, i.e. not just showing her back. Anyway is is a lovely presentation of a wonderful site. regards kevin

Hi Pozdrav. This is an interesting dwelling and a good piece of social reportage. The figure in the door is useful for giving scale to the image. You chose to take the picture in the harsh light of midday, which gives you hard shadowsm and washed out detail in the highlights. In sunlight, this light is the least helpful light for photography. I would like to see this image taken in the softer light of morning or evening
    Regards Kevin
