    Hi Bev,

The impressive structure dating back 140 years is beautifully explained by your note. It's evocative of the equipment I saw in Belfast two weeks ago: shipbuilders Harland and Wolff, had built huge slipways and graving docks to accommodate the simultaneous construction of Olympic and Titanic.

    Hello Gert,

Forty-one years and counting. In this impoverished land, people eked out a living. But then the imperial powers moved in, made the Taliban possible. The magnificent colossal statues in Bamyan were destroyed after standing sentinel for 1500 years. Maybe this young man foresees the devastation of his country, and the insanity to visit it.

I find the scan exceptionally good. The subdued colors, the textures of the cart and wheels are entirely realistic in appearance.

    Hello Klaudio,

A fascinating note and an interesting survey. I'm surprised that Seattle, Washington, whence Starbucks, Pete's and Caribou coffee all sprung, would have been among the leaders, and New York would not have been far behind.

The photo demonstrates excellent quality. I have not been able to read the name of Golf Club in the spoon, but the definition nonetheless is first rate.

    Warm regards,

    Bulent

PS Between 13-20 November, we will be in New Zealand. I plan to peruse you photos to get an idea of what to see.

    Hello Noel,

Painters who painted realistic images of scenes had to take their time to compose their creation. It took days or weeks to produce the final product. Modern photographers can click away at random, and by the scatter shot process perhaps produce a good composition. This could not be better composed! It's a beautiful photo of a beautiful scene.

    Warm regards,

    Bulent

    Hello Ann

This is a good strong composition, largely as a result of your filling the frame so effectively with your subject. His grin seems to suggest he's aware of your presence! I'm prepared to bet that no medieval pikeman would have had a helmet this shiny! Spit and polish. No: I can't see your reflection either.

    Hello Serge

Very strong viewpoint looking up at the weatherboarded building. I like the strips of strong colour: blue sky, dark trees, purple flowers, green meadow in the foreground. And in case it gets too predictable, there's the white house agreeably breaking up the lines. Lovely composition.

    Hello Brian

Excellent architectural detail, beautifully realised in your trademark strong primaries. I like the contrast between colours from the opposite sides of the colour wheel: OK, the architect/designer chose them, but you still had to see them, realise their potential, and frame them is such a tight manner. Good work!

Good old, warm Kodachrome! I for one am very pleased you're delving into your archives, or jumping into your time machine as you say. This is an excellent street shot, and all the more interesting for its age. One wonders what the place must look like now... Thanks for sharing these old documentary images.

    Hello Neyvan

Wild beauty! I'm not sure where your turquoise skies come from, unless the high altitude creates a thinner atmosphere, maybe. But the overall effect is great: I particularly like the cloud shadow over the foreground which offers a contrast to the sunlit mountains beyond. Pin sharp, of course!

Again a superb shot, and an even more powerful note. It's a disgrace that Tohti would be given life imprisonment, but then Western style Democracy exists neither in Communism nor in Islam. Those operating systems are incompatible with human rights.

    Hello Agnes

A beautiful spot, very well photographed. I was sailing in a friend's yacht around here a couple of months ago, and your shot brings back some happy memories. I might suggest another 1/2 stop less exposure (I know you can't go back and take the shot again, but in P'shop, it's possible in "Levels", to drag the gamma (middle) slider to the right a little effectively to lower the overall look of the exposure.) But this is excellent as is!

    Regards

    Will
