    Hello Bev,

Your highly engaging note puts the scene into photographic and historic perspective. I hadn't heard of Wycoller until I read your note. I'm surprised that the slab has not been replaced by a wider and safer bridge, perhaps with bannisters, but then it remains quaint in this bucolic setting. Have a good weekend, and

    Warm regards,

    Ciao Cristina,

Your black and white photos have an atmosphere of the old English film Ilford — sharp, high contrast, and possessing surpassing depth-of-field. Well done.

what? Granada? I thought it never rained in Andalucia! :)
I am just reading a novel set in Granada in 1492, at the end of the Moorish domination - well, I read many similar novels and each time it's like I am back there, amazed by the sound of water in the gardens, the smell of jasmine, under the sun, up and down the Albaicin...
anyway - I like very much the calm play of the various patterns - the stripes of the umbrella, the chequered floor, the lacy stockings.
this is one of those pictures where we can read something into a moment captured by the camera - a happy coincidence that you were quick to capture with your camera :)

    dear Bulent,

I usually don't follow much nature photography but this forest is truly mesmerizing and very much reminiscent of the images shown in Jackson's movies. The luscious green mossy undergrowth looks soft like a carpet - an image that would look perfect on a wall, as large, true-to-life poster :)

    Hello Kasia,

This is an exquisite view of the Karakoram with surpassing depth-of-field. The stars appear like brilliant diamonds, with the dramatic highlight created by the Milky Way. I'm surprised this is not a time exposure of several seconds, instead of only 1/21 sec.

    Hello Gert,

I agree with your choice, the stroller looking up at the heroic Communist era statue in distinction to the woman, oblivious to the statue and the cat, oblivious to the building. Graffiti. What is your sense of the people's reaction to the separation of the Czech Republic from Slovakia?

    Hello Alexandre,

I see that Ouro Preto is a laid back town, at least on this weekday. The brilliantly sunlit cobblestone street makes an eye-catching composition. The man strolling along the narrow sidewalk is essential for the composition.

    Hello Gert,

Thanks for sharing the excellent photograph as well as the information. It appears to be a marble statue rather than bronze, and much more difficult to create. Almost sixty years after he passed away, I imagine the woman on the phone is neither in awe nor in fear of the personification of evil. His daughter Svetlana married an American architect and lived in Charlottesville, Virginia the last couple of decades of her life.

    Hello Rob,

I've seen this building a number of times in my visit to New York in the last couple of years. It is strange design because of its overwhelming simplicity. Do some floors have more than one apartment? I recently saw a program in which the incredible nouveau rich population in such buildings have an elevator for their cars. One apartment owner owned two Lamborghinis that were transported up by elevator to the owner's floor, and stood sentinel behind glass wall... but part of the apartment. Could it be this building? In a way, the building evokes memories of the tragic World Trade Center's Twin-Towers, and is also vulnerable. I don't think I could live in a building like this, but I don't expect anyone to ask me.

    Warm regards,

    Bulent
