    Hello Brenda,

You've captured an engaging scene, especially with the man (possibly on his cell phone) but clearly eyeing the photographer! Your notes are always a pleasure to read.

    Hello Ryszard,

Having visited Dubrovnik 8-10 times, I've usually seen the walled old city, the upscale neighborhoods, but the marshland is an unusual aspect for me. You had a wonderful vantage point from the water. Thanks for the informative note.

    Hello Chris,

From the thumbnail-image I wondered whether this was Karnak, impressive in age and scale. I don't remember the exact scene, but I thought the site was extraordinary. The man with the optically brilliant shirt creates an effective focal point.

    Ciao Luciano,

In B&W this photograph of the crumbling building is especially effective. The pedestrian just entering the view innocently, nonchalantly, creates a critical element of the composition. He is unaware of the dangers that lurk!

    Hello Sven,

In certain quarters where the elderly outnumber the youth, these walkers are a common scene. The setting and the composition are well presented in the composition, with the low angle sunlight coming from the right. The colors and resolution are superb.

    Hello Beverley,

This is a gorgeous architectural portrait of the medieval church of St. Mary's. How prescient the early residents were in anticipating your visit and to name their town after you. And you clearly anticipated the moment: the yellow traffic sign and the blue jacket of the man add color highlights to the scene. A second later and that brilliant color would have become subdued by the shadow.

    Warm regards,

    Hello Chris,

With the King and Queen of Jordan visiting the President in Washington, DC this is a timely photo. I see that you shot it nine months ago. It must have been an impressive city in its heyday. Frequently, in seeing early Medieval sites as ruins, one wonders whether it was a plague, an invasion, or an earthquake that caused the devastation. I guess the last of the three is the culprit here, and not as intolerable as the first two in terms of causing human agony.

    Warm regards,

    Hello Malgorzata,

Just last year we were in Montserrat, famous for its rugged and distinctive rock formation. We must have taken some of the same rides that you did in order to get tot the top. As for the name Montserrat, we found out that "serrat" is associated with the word "serrated," describing the sharp edge of a bread knife. Excellent quality in the exposure and of course the composition with that one prominent rock at just 0.62 parts measure from the left.

    Hello Klaudio,

I was touched by your essay. The photo is absolutely first rate. My son took his wife and children to see the rebuilt bridge last summer and also took some fabulous photos. I had always wanted to see the original bridge, designed by Mimar Hayruddin, assistant to the greatest Ottoman architect of them all, Mimar Sinan. Alas I should not have put it off. The bridge that had stood there with grace and pride was brought down by human stupidity. But then, what can I say of Ottoman wisdom that stored gunpowder in the Parthenon... ignited by Venetian shelling in 1685!

    Warm regards,

You must know the American West as well as any American. Here we often joke that American living in Mississippi does not know where the state of North Dakota is located. Hello Gert,

There may be some banter going on, but it would be subtle detail. Here the real theme is the sun worshiping populace of Krakow in the late spring of 2014. I have visited Gdansk but have missed Warsaw and Krakow. It is Krakow I want very much to visit and to see my favorite painting, Leonardo's "Lady with an Ermine" (Portrait of Cecilia Gallerani) hanging in the Czartoryski Museum. (We have it in the kitchen at home, but the Polish curators still think it's still hanging in their gallery).

Your photo demonstrates a simple bucolic scene, but photographed perfectly. The colors of early spring are on display. What is most impressive is the depth of field.
