    Hello Chris

Fine, natural-looking colour, and a beautiful scene. Maybe I wouldn't have stuck the boat in the middle of the frame, but there's plenty of room for her to progress into! Like me, I suspect the occupants are wondering what's through that gap. You're right about that splash of sunlight on the far mountainside.

    Hello Ann,
This is a very neatly cropped photo with a good balance and very nicely matching colours. Among the many fine small details I am especially fond of the straws seen in front of the wheel.
    Kind regards,

    Hi John,
You note explains all! This has really brightened my afternoon after a 'dull' start. Even better is that I saw signs to Boring in Oregon when there recently.
Very well spotted and making such a fun post. The photo may not rank amongst your most interesting but retains your high standards of post-production and note writing.
    Super.
    Kind Regards, Ann

    Hello Eleu,
It seems new sports are invented all the time, and why not? There is more to life than baseball or ice-hockey. This looks quite exciting and the yellow sail adds a fine splash of color, as well as contrasting nicely with the water.
    Best regards,

    Hello John,
I smiled when seeing the title, but I didn't know I would be laughing out loud when reading the note. Honestly the note is more interesting than the photo, but of course showing this view with that sign is an opportunity you just couldn't resist. Anyway, the photo is quite nice, with good light and fine depth and the interesting white dots spread all over the field. But of course it's just a pretext for writing the note. It really proves the importance of well written notes for teaching us about the world.
    Kind regards,
    Gert

    Hello Ann,

What a delightful photograph - and how nice that this photogenic farmer was kind enough to let the members of your little group all photograph him. And how appropriate that he should also be sitting astride a John Deere tractor too - after all, John Deere himself was a 19th Century American inventor who designed the self-cleaning polished steel ploughshare which is nowadays used worlwide.

A very pleasing picture with fine composition and lovely true colours and with the beefy farmer (he couldn't be anything other than American, could he?) standing out very well against a nicely out of focus and subdued landscape. Technically perfect too.

    Excellent!

    Kind Regards,

    John.

P.S. Nice to see you back - I hope everything went well on Saturday! :)

    Hello Rosemary,
I am pleased that you rectified the lack of a TE post from here. I remember arriving by narrow boat when I was a teenager and loving the feeling of being at the centre of this historic place.
A very clear and well taken picture with the red sun shades drawing the eye across the water.
    Excellent!

    Hello Ray

Of course by photographing this monolith from this viewpoint, you're bound to invite comparisons with Ansel Adams, so allow me to be the first! For that reason, it was probably sensible of you to shoot in colour, and that has certainly lent something to the photograph: as John has already said, the beautiful reflections are an important element in the composition. Superb location: I envy you! I wonder what Adams would have made of it...

    Regards

    Will

    Hello John,
I am glad that I opened this one as the TN did not look particaulrly inspiring. However, the very fine detail and natural colours are excellent. The composition is well thought out with gorgeous clarity and expsoure.
Clever work and an interesting note to match.

    Hello Dwaipayan,
The slightly hazy mountain forms an impressive backdrop to the green hut. This is an interesting composition where you have made this rather humble building look almost magic because of the strong light on the wall. The strong contrasts make the foreground almost jump at us.

    Hi John,
I like this one and the lens that took it! I find that a wide-angle lens can add that touch of creativity to what would normally be a mundane subject. Of course it is also useful for other purposes as you state in your reply to Will. The red car has really taken on a personality in this one and I love the dark grey sky. Shame about the car in front of the pub.
    A super experiment.
    Kind Regards, Ann

    Hi Ray,

An interesting note and a very fine photograph to accompany it!

At my age I think I should prefer simply to admire the majestic grandeur of this huge chunk of rock rather than even think about the prospect of trying to climb up it!

What really makes this picture, of course, are the beautiful reflections in the mirror clear and calm water beneath it. You have captured the moment perfectly here with lovely light and colours and exceptional details and sharpness.

    Beautiful!

    Kind Regards,

    John.

Ellora and Ajanta are among the places I have regrettably missed in India. I am sure they are magical places, which this photo indicates. You have used the light very well and achieved perfect sharpness on the statues. It is a very nicely symmetric composition.

Thinking you were still in the Philippines I was very surprised to see this. This is an idyllic view of a kind I wouldn't expect in the Far East. It's a very nice building with a beautiful roof and fine red details. It is nicely situated by the canal and seen from a fine POV.

I would call this a technically and artistically superb photo. The fantastic architectural details are perfectly seen and enjoyed thanks to the fine light and sharpness. I think this version is the best, at least clearly better than the most heavily saturated.

    Hello Delphine

I guess you're right about the high contrast leading to burnt out highlights, but as far as I'm concerned that's not a problem at all. I can see into the shadows, and the sky is for once, pretty irrelevant! An interesting place and residents' initiative, well illustrated by you.

    Hej Boa,
