    Hello Klaudio,

Again a superb shot, and an even more powerful note. It's a disgrace that Tohti would be given life imprisonment, but then Western style Democracy exists neither in Communism nor in Islam. Those operating systems are incompatible with human rights.

    Warm regards,

    Hello Klaudio,

As usual you have not disappointed with your superb shot of the aviary creature and the engaging note. The colors and sharpness are first rate. Ten seconds is more than enough time when you have a good camera and lighting quick reflexes.

    Hello Brenda,

The window design has a wonderful abstract quality and your note informs the work. The design demonstrates one point perspective effectively, as well as the shading on a cylindrical surface. I am happy that you did not crop the reflections in the plate window, anchoring the image in reality.

    Hello Subhendu,

When I first caught a glimpse of this image I asked, "Who is driving?" But your explanation helped, they are all driving and none of them is driving. They are children being children. The scene of daily life, including the background, is beautifully conceived.

    Hello dear Malgo,

What a fabulous short lesson in history for the children (and for those reading your note). You are right. I will never get to Lake Baikal or Kolomenskoye (my spell check does not even accept the latter) on my confounded working vacations. It would have been a pleasure to see you and Serghei, and indeed meet Jason.

There are national and ethnic jokes we can never get away from. One of my closest physicist friends was a brilliant Serb (but not Serp2000) who hated communism and Tito in decades past. He had a joke about two men on the Trans-Siberian train. After a few days they strike up a friendship. "What is your name, comarade?" asks the first man. The second man answers, "Nikolay Petrovic." The first inquires further, "How do you spell that, comarade?" The second takes a pencil and writes, "X X." The first inquires, "What is this X, and what is the other? The second man, points to the first and answers "Nikolai, and the second X, Petrovic."

It is now the second man's turn. "And how about your name?" The first man responds, "Igor Nikolova." And how do you spell that, comarade?" The first man takes the pencil in hand, and writes "X X X." The second man inquires what is this X, and what is this, and what is this?" The first man responds, "This one is Igor, and this one Molotov," and continues, "...and this X is 'Doctor.'"

So much for ethnic jokes. Turks have jokes about the Black Sea Turks. Just as Americans have it for all ethnic types... Now all politically incorrect.

    Warm regards,

    Hello Jasmine,

Works in galleries hear more puzzled critiques than anything else. The euphemism, "It's very interesting," generally means "There must be something to it, but I don't have the foggiest idea what the artist is saying. I will put it into the group theme, Pictures at an Exhibition II.

    Hello Luciano,

Indeed, the sandy beach is nothing like what one sees on the Mediterranean coasts of the Italian and French Rivieras, but more like the Caribbean. Beautifully photographed and tastefully framed, it is sad that we must relinquish the summer to lands below the equator.

    Bonjour mon cher ami, Philippe,

The beautiful edifice, the Château de Breteuil, must be very expensive to maintain. The mowing of the grass, and trimming of the hedges alone must require a large staff of gardeners. Thank you for the informative note,

    Hello Noel,

The Victorian Era building exudes majesty, and is clearly maintained in pristine shape. We didn't get to see very much of Belfast, opting instead for a full day trip to Giant's Causeway. But from the ship as we sailed out at 6:00 pm I had a perfect vantage point to see the dry dock where the Titanic was constructed.

    Hello Lars,

The tall ship adds a sense of timelessness to the old Akershus Castle and Fortress. The the late evening sunlight baths the structure in golden hues, amplified in the reflections. I have visited Oslo only once, although Bergen I've seen half-a-dozen times. How would you compare Norway's first and second cities?

    Hello Ann,

This is a wonderful detail shot of the weekend warrior with his gleaming helmet. His beard is impeccably groomed, but his mail armor is at least visible. We just returned from a cruise from the British Isles — from Southampton and Guernsey, then Ireland and Iceland to the New World. The cabin TV was monopolized by news of ISIS and the Scottish Referendum. (I was happy to see the outcome. How about you? This is one instance when the sum of the parts can function more effectively than the separated parts.)

    Hello Brian,

This is a gorgeous shot of the rugged rocks, interspersed with wildflowers that add color and texture to the scene. We just returned from a two week cruise from Southampton to Boston, stopping in Waterford and Dublin in the Republic of Ireland, and Belfast in Norther Ireland... before sailing out into the Northern Atlantic and seeing Iceland, before making landfall in the New World. The 10 hour stopover in Belfast allowed us to see Giant's Causeway, but very little of the city itself. It's a pity we did not know you were in Northern Ireland.

    Warm regards,

    Bulent
