    Bonjour Serge,

I have not visited the Ardennes, but I like your photo very much. The statue overseeing the small group of in the square makes a humorous scene. The cobble stones, or parquet, are laid out in concentric patterns but in sections radiating outward from the fountain. It's a very good capture with excellent depth of field.

    Warm regards,

    Bulent

    Ciao Luciano,

This is such an alluring scene, a small table under an awning, with the endless sea creating the background. The Caribbean is one of the most beautiful areas of the world. I have never visited Cuba, but I am still hoping... one day.

I put this image into the group theme, Paradise on Earth.

    Warm regards,

    Bonjour mon cher ami, Philippe,

The composition with the stained glass window (in the left door) makes an effective counterpoint to the open door on the right. Through the latter we are looking out in the courtyard where the massive stonework is on display. This structure displays form and function. Beautiful elements, built to last.

    Hello Klaudio,

A spoonbill! I've never seen them in the wild or in a zoo. This is a nice portrait of the feathered creature, but like other birds, I don't think he is looking at the photographer with his head turned right at the lens. Like other birds, I suspect you caught him looking off to the sides.

    Warm regards,

    Hi Ike,

Form and function. It is attractive with the smooth gentle curve, and it is built to last. The pair of orthogonal additions serving to buttress the wall are nicely included in your photo, from last fall. the aspect ratio 16:9 yields a value of 1.777... I have never figured it out but camera and television makers have never embraced the golden ratio of 1.618, known to be pleasing to the eye. It's too bad that they don't make screens 16.2:10, instead of 16:9.

    Hello Gyorgy,

Your first digital experience already revealed you as a first rate photographer. The composition, colors, exposure, sharpness, and depth-of-field are all exquisite. The D80 served you well. Is that the camera you still use? I went in 2008 from a D70 to a D200. Of course, newer models followed... with lighter bodies, faster exposure, automatic ccd dust removers...

    Warm regards,

    Hello Ricardo,

In a visit to Kanazawa, Japan two years ago we saw an exhibition of optical illusions, and a staircase just like this laid out horizontally. Each floor was a different room, so to speak, and visitors, by walking into different rooms, would appear waist-high as if at different floors. I thought this photo represented a scene from Leandro Ehrlich's exhibition in Kanazawa.

    Hello Bev,

The scale of Roman architecture never ceases to astonish. The massive stones, the arches, the thick walls, I thought initially they were part of some structure in Rome. It's interesting that the Greeks were good scientists and mathematicians, and the Romans were great builders... but harbored only distain for their forebears' as effete intellectuals.

Lovely shot of the Stockholm harbor, Lars. Speaking of museums, did you get to the Nobel Museum near the Palace in Old Town? The shade of red is quite unusual in many parts of the world, although in Scandinavia one does see certain shades of red as characteristic. In fact, in the United States where the descendants of the Vikings settled the reds are so similar, or so it seems.

    Dear John,

In presenting a photo just two hours old, you are giving us a weather report of Flanders. It's a cool and partially cloudy day, it appears. The two young strollers on the side are dressed warmly, but the sun is not directly warming up the square. I like everyday scenes like this. I will like it better when spring arrives in a few days, and warm weather takes over. I just put up a photo which is 11 years old, no weather report there.

    Warm regards, John,

    Bulent
