    Hello Jean,

'Smile for the Birdie!' doesn't quite compete with finding out the interesting history of such a place! However, the man's red t shirt does add interest and colour to your photograph.
The tiered amphitheatre creates a very natural movement from right to left across the frame, before interest moves to lovely buildings in the b/g heat haze.
Was there going to be a production in the theatre? I can't quite decide if that is a lamp and staging, in the b/g, or just some renovation scaffolding.

    My warm regards,
    Bev :-)

Ha! Ha! Will, all through your notes I believed you were going to share your experiences of these classy hotels and their internal beauty. You should have told them you have a yacht ... that would have swayed it!

The f/g rocks and branches make a lovely natural border, as well as creating a mood and a sense of depth. The island does look intriguing, with its terracotta roofs, interspersed with trees and hidden by a protective wall. Were it not for its beauty, you would not be sure whether the walls were to keep people out or in!

    Have a lovely day,
    Bev :-)

    Bonjour Serge,

Another delightful photograph of this pretty French town. You have included lovely details of the narrow, cobbled street, the wood framed houses with overhanging upper storeys and the decorative use of flowers, all sharply captured.
Your composition creates a sense of mystery, as the street curves into the distance.

    Have a lovely day,

    Ciao Caro Carlo,

We have had a wonderfully mild autumn with sunshine that is excellent for photography. Your photograph shows a relaxed population, enjoying the weather under a completely cloudless sky.
I particularly like how you have created a sense of perspective and of depth with this angled quayside and repeating lampposts.

    Have a lovely day,

    Hello Ryszard,

Autumn colours make any scene more vibrant and the f/g tree in your shot demonstrates the very best of this season. It is beautifully supported by a whole host of similarly clad trees, which are united by an equally colourful, leafy carpet.
    Nature at its best!

    My warm regards,

    Merhaba MMesut,

It isn't easy to capture people who are performing. You really need to capture them unawares so that they appear natural in what they are doing. This is a fine example of that. The musician is very well positioned in the frame and I love how her flute is angled across the frame.

    Have a lovely day,
    Bev :-)

    Hello Jason,

You had obviously had no drink before you took this shot! It is symmetrical perfection! Even the group is standing inside a central circle ... did you speak to them first?
It's a really well taken shot. We immediately get a feel for the marble staircase and surrounds, not just its textures but, also, its magnificent appearance. These sort of buildings are meant to wow us and this certainly does.

    Have a lovely rest,
    Bev :-)

    Hello Noel,

    This is an eye-catching image.
You have created immediate interest with your title, especially since the silhouetted figure and b/g don't shout 'sunshine' ... so it takes closer examination!
The backlighting is superb. It focuses on the figure, it gives her shape, it outlines her in gold and then, the piece de resistance, it bronzes the tip of her elegant, elongated arms. (I love alliteration!)

    Thanks for sharing this,
    Bev :-)
In answer to your question about 'Big Fish', no, I haven't seen it. Will have to check it out! But thanks for the critique.

    Hello Bulent,

I was astounded by the similarities between your photograph and the master's portrait!
You are right about 'haunting'; it really is! Maybe it is the eye lashes, maybe it is the b/g colours or, maybe, it is the touch of sunlight through her hair.
I don't need to analyse too deeply to know that I like it very much.

    Have a lovely day,

    Hello Craig,

The U.S.A. is so large that there must be endless opportunities to see a massive range of different locations. Just the name 'Death Valley' conjures up impressions long before you see the photograph. I must admit, the sand, the vastness and the struggle for existence is what I had expected!
A great, moody shot, where b&w perfectly matches the basic survival battle.

    Have a lovely day,

    Hello Gert,

A strong photograph of these to men where the narrow dof details them well, against an interesting, unobtrusive b/g.
Your w/s photograph reminds me so much of my early days in N. E. Lancs. There were always lots of cloth capped men, not necessarily drinking tea, but gathering in groups to chat or watch the world go by. Nowadays, unless you go to a city, you rarely see large groups of people outside. Somehow, there is less community and more individuality.

    Thank you for sharing this,
    Bev :-)

Your viewpoint captures the textural details of the wet clay, then allows it to become the perfect lead to the moody b/g, full of silhouetted trees and misty mountains.

This is a really eye-catching shot; the shimmering reflections make a perfect lead to the strongly placed fisherman, the vibrant buoys and, ultimately, the church itself.

    Hello John,

Bruges is a beautiful city with lots of photographic opportunities. Despite the disappearance of the sun, you have given us a photograph full of autumnal colours and superbly sharp.
It's a lovely setting, very welcoming, and probably full of people at warmer times of the year. You have composed the shot beautifully, with good leads and the focal building nicely angled and strongly positioned.

This shots shows so clearly the emotion involved in modern sports. It means so much to win!

This is a photograph to savour!
It is a shot which perfectly captures the skills and machinery of a bygone era. It was an excellent idea to give it this 'old newspaper' treatment, making it appear as if it is a photograph commensurate with its subject.

    Hello Brian,

Apart from the viewpoint, which is accented by the interesting framing, the warmth of the colours really stands out. They are so very unGreek, which are almost always very blue and white. Here, the low sun has turned the white of the buildings to gold, like the touch of Midas!

You have given us some quite strong contrasts, here, both in terms of style and materials. The vertical format emphasises the upward development, such a feature of modernisation.
