The men seem to be returning from a funeral...sober, subdued..and dressed in white....the women seem full of life by contrast...celebrating a local festival....
Both sides are life- the passing and the living - both go on..:-)
Pity the tiger was on route 5 and we on 3!

Good shot considering the limitations of standing on the road and shooting! The wide angle did a nice job of widening the horizon. The frame though seems too ornate for a picture of such a simple life..and I didnt know that Lamayuru was a cop free zone in Ladakh..:-)

Very very good calm look...Greek heritage is clear....and something very Himachali too..:) maybe her ancecestors are the lost tribe around Jaana.

Hi Rich,
We actually suffer from a more serious manifestation of the High Altitude sickness on the Raid de Himalaya rally. The cars do an accelerated ascent of what takes a trekker a couple of days in a few hours!
Despite the air evac and other faiclities what we always rely on first is an altitude chamber. The patient is put into it and the pressure pumped up so it simulates a drop in altitude immediately. They work like magic, are light enough to carry on a mule and and fold to the size of a large sleeping bag!
Next time you go o a trek in India insist that the company organising it provides one!
Just a thought.
Great pic of an Army Cheetah chopper. The army always travel in twos in the Himalayas.

Hi Santanu,
The picture itself is excellent aesthetically....well centred with a receding flow of arches....technically its useless.
No sharpness very poor cropping and the writing at the bottom destroys everything!
Infact it almost seems like you shot it with a pixelated webcam! Embrace photoshop..learn cropping, framing and sharpening and the photographer hiding in you can be appreciated by us all......welcome to TE. You will find some good friends and some heartless critics here....but at the end of this you will have great pictures to show....:)

I just read through the exchange of views and as an Indian I was actually quite amused.
Also as someone who owns a garage in India I immediately recognised not only the engine block but also the ventilated disc rotors on the block.
In my opinion...the guy is possibly taking the engine and rotors for reconditioning...not to the scrap yard.If he was he would not have carefully covered, with a new cloth, the various opening left by removing the heads!
The only odd thing is whereas he is wearing a sandal on his left foot it seems to be a shoe on his right..so I would imagine he works in a garage that doesnt pay too well and is not the owner of a small shop as I earlier concluded.... that he is hardworking is written in his body...still strong at his age... around the early 50's I assume.
Now he needs no sympathy just respect. In India we have similar people who cant afford a pair of shoes yet they smile and work hard like the gent here.
Maybe you both need a holiday to India to put "deprivation" in perspective and sling political correctness out of the window!
