Well done, Marc! The first thing to draw my eye is the long exposure, and then your effective use of lighting throughout this composition becomes apparent. You have chosen your time of day well -- enough light to show all clearly and without grain, enough dark to emphasize what light there is. I really like the position and lighting of the cyclist and how that engages us. I also like the way you show those striations of light and shadow across his path.

An interesting photo, Frank, and a shame no one has commented on it sooner. I don't get back here nearly enough. I like it because it's authentic -- a realistic New England shore look, right down to the scuffed-bottom boat. The composition is good as it is. The clouds are interesting, the boat, and that jagged, twisting trail of rock. I think there are a couple of places where you could crop it nearly in half and create another interesting view that would emphasize the boat more. But I don't dispute the point of view you've chosen; I think it works, too.

Very nicely done, Tom, with an apt bit of poetry in verse to complement the apt bit of poetry you and your camera caught in this lovely, fleeting autumn world. I think the two things that work best in this photo are the symmetry and the rich color of the image. Good clarity and off-center composition, too.

Well, y'all did well, Hubert! :) As you've noticed, we have just a few of the Canada goose species this time of year. I really like the sharpness of this photo; the unique, creative presentation of the lighthouse; and the way you've presented it unobstructed between the birds on the wing.

Well, Tom, I was passing through, as I often must do these days, and I had to sign in and comment on this. Lovely timing and execution in this light and shadows environment. The colors are deep and rich, the illumination inviting, and the whole composition -- with the varied background and foreground, the low shooting angle, and the lines of the rocks in the water and the curves of the hills -- all of it just makes you want to go there. Well done!

Perfect composition and capture of the moment. Nice, crisp detail and, as Dana noted, seizing the very soul of the image. Excellently seen and shown. I just fired this link off to a couple of newspaper editors I know and suggested this is the gold standard for the kind of back-to-school shot they should emulate.

Excellent use of close-up, Jurgen. The sharpness, texture, and detail of this image are stunning. Very apt selection of black and white -- and very unusual, creative composition to show only half a face.

Ah, JeanPierre, there's nothing like a sunny day, a river, and a boat! I like the vibrant contrasting color of the canoe here, the diagonal slope of the tree line, and the reflections of the paddlers in the water. With those bare arms and dark waters, this image really conveys a sense of summer. Savor those days -- we may get an early frost here tonight! :)

It takes only a moment looking at your gallery again to say, "Very nice!" And, of your latest images, I find this one most immediately striking. I love the juxtaposition of colors, especially that imposing rust-red peak. Also, the juxtaposition of light and shadow, and earth and sky, are all elements that you have working very well. This is a masterful composition!

I do so enjoy a photo such as this, Joel. The lighting of the late hour is pleasing, and the symmetry of the sails in the water is especially pleasing. Good, sharp detail here and an engaging canvas of clouds for a backdrop.
