hi graham, will do my best to explain what I think about your photo.
1. Is a bit unsharp, and don't think is because of movement, but of a very shallow dof you've chosen - 5.6. Don't know where your focus point was, but maybe a higher ISO, say 400 and an f8 or f11 would have worked better. Grain is usually not an issue with BW so you can step down the f and higher the ISO
2. Subject I found your compo quite distracting mainly because of a very busy background and also that the person on the left, sitting down, has another 2 persons behind it, making it very hard to stand out
3. BW conversion - well the thing is that in this picture which u titled conversations, u have two people talking, but due to the way you conversed in BW, they are lost in middle grey tones, while you have very strong black tones on the trees and on the text on that tent. So my eye gets confused because of higher contrast areas in other parts rather than on the characters who are talking.
So basiucally you should keep it as simply as possible with the subjects so it's clear what your photo is about :)

hi Didier, not sure about your photo... about the ablge I mean, Don't u/stand why you've chosen to shoot from the left. from the right in my opinion might have worked better as now the bridge seems a bit tilted to the left. there's also lots of space in the foreground so now my eye goes straight to that dark square (was it a box?) on the bridge[+]

I for one think the pics you have on your gallery are very good. I like very much the almost square format, reminds me of the 6x7 cameras, and works with your subjects very well. Like the grain as well, these photos have a reportage feeling to them so don't mind that. I agree with the comment on the colour, guess you tried to make them look old and maybe you over did it just a bit. Sorry about your camera, but don't mind me asking, who stoled your camera in a ghost town?? (kidding, hope u don't mind)

Hi Maria. beautiful sunset photo. a lower point of view might have worked better, to user more the ilhouette. currently, the horizon line "cuts" the man's head. But beautiful tones. What's the pink dot just below the silhouette?
