Hello Benny,
I'm always interested in shots which are ambiguous with the industrial/modern life. Sure, there is a sad feeling in your shot, the machines are rusty, ugle but... there is also something fascinating, there's a certain beauty here. It's "the shining beauty of the beast", to repeat the words of Godfrey Reggio, the director of "Koyaanisqatsi" (I don't remember if it's with you that I evoked this great movie about tehnology and modern life in the occidental world).

Hi Ivana,
I like your choices here to turn a classic touristic shot without surprise in a really artistic choice. The silhouettes, the shadows, the winter atmosphere, evec the two cars with the reflection on the light are interesting.Nice.

Hi Caleb,
It seems that you have one of the most enormous collection of people in TE. Strange that I've never noticed your gallery before. I like also the variety. Difficult to choose. This one, with this huge piece of flashy green caught my eyes. You write that billiard is a common pastime but there's something surrealist in this scene. Perhaps because billiard is associated to the occidental world and a certain idea of a luxuous game.
There's also a "Jia zang Ke" (a great chinese director) feeling in this shot. I really like it a lot.

Hi Antonio,
There's a kafkaian feeling in this shot. This lonely silhouette... among all these horizontal and vertical lines... as if he was emprisonned or he has to face something more more powerful than him. Dark and fascinating.

Hi Jon,
A wonderful touch of orange among all this blue. The compo, with this diagonal and this tower in the background is really good. I like also the contrast between the sharpeness of the bridge and the smoothness of the calm water.

Hi Josh,
Il like the variety in your portraits. It gives some interesting samples of the daily life in China. This one isn't the best (the one with the granny is splendid)but it illustrates perfectly the youth. The soft colour, the soft light on her face and, of course, her beauty are sufficient for me to make this portrait attractive.
Keep up the good work with this interesting "portraits project".

Hi Maichal,
There's a nice collection of portraits in your gallerie. Thin one caught my eyes. It's a close one : thanks to this choice we can see all the little details of the sand on her skin. And the fact that this girl is rather good looking, that she's surrounded by this nice blue bokeh contributes to make your picture a really good portrait.

Hi Michael,
This the second photograph of this kind I critique in a week (see http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/photo1034317.htm). There are some points in common between the two. This "meat in the town" of course but also what I could call a "raw backround". I can understand why you decide to keep so much space on the right of the frame.
It's a great shot because it's totally unexpected to see the big pieces of meat exposed in the street. But perhaps to emphasized the disease that we can feel in front of this scene, we can make some modifications. I think about a little of the sharpen filter (the meat is a bit blur) and a tilt on the left (but we'll have to crop a part on the right). I try a little WS. It's not perfect, the sharpen aspect needs more work, I did a little faster, it's just to give an idea. Anyway, your picture is also interesting by the fact that it offers a lot of possibilities in the post processing work.
Have a nice week-end.

Hi Ricard,
I risk to repeat myself : once again there're plenty of pictures in TE about tuna in the Tsukiji market, but once again you success to give originality to your view of this famous place. This juxtaposition of the dead tunas and these alive and laughing salary men and O.L. is simple but great.
On the other hand I'm not convinced - once gain ;) - by the lack of contrast of the picture. The tunas are white and the 5 friends wear black suits. I think that you should emphasized this contrast. I make a proposition with a WS. My version is without a doubt excessive but it's just for giving an idea of what I mean.
Have a nice evening,
Olivier.

I ricard,
There are plenty of pictures in TE about this kind of fashion young people. Yours is interesting because you choose to take the profile of the subject and not the face. This choice associated with the flashy background contributes to give originality. I like all the insciptions : "Beauty is mine", "perfect cutie". We are here in front of a real kitsch dandy Shibuya style.
As you noticed, there's again this lack of focuse. But it's less disturbing here than the one with the salary man.
Have a nice evening.
Olivier.
