Hi Peter,
what a superb pic this is, it is the kind of dramatic scene I have been searching for for years but has so far eluded me. You make me so envious, fabulous photograph though...congratulations.

Hi Bev,
Being born and brought up in Barrowford I know this stretch of canal quite well. When I was in my early teens and still at school, my mates and I would ride the barges through the locks during the long hot summer holidays, opening and closing the gates for the bargee. The last working barge on the canal was I think about 1986.
The fencing did not exist in those days and the cottage at the top right of the frame was the home of the lock keeper.
For me, this is a very nostalgic photograph, keep up the good work, great shot.
